One For The Road

Posted: November 5, 2007 in church life, end of the week

In case you missed it, Em took care of the Sunday Rewind this week as I was busy slaying redfish. Take a minute and go check out her Sunday Rewind from yesterday.

C’mon, I know you didn’t really go read it. It’ll only take a minute. I’ll wait…

OK, now that you’ve immersed yourself in all that was, I’d like to take a minute to add one bullet to the list…

  • RidgePoint Rocks was surprisingly easy to digest. Most don’t know it, but we learned the hard way to never plan a series that lasts longer than 4 or 5 weeks. It all started last year with a series on the sermon on the mount called “LifeSwap” that was 10 weeks (that’s right – count ‘em – 10 weeks) long. About halfway through it became the series that never ends (kinda like that whole “99 Bottles Of Beer” song) and by week 10 even I was begging for the pain to stop. Needless to say, this is the first time since then that we’ve broken our “no longer than 5 weeks and even then you’d better walk softly” rule. And it wasn’t as bad as I feared (but hey, that’s just my opinion). Then again, how in the world do you do a series on your 7 Core Values without going for at least 7 weeks? But don’t worry – the rule’s staying. We’ve cheated monotony once, but to attempt it again would mean almost certain destruction. Or sleepy members. Either way, that’s not a risk we’re willing to take…
