As I gear up to head back into the office, my mind is already swirling with 100′s of things. Good thing there’s plenty of room in there…
Blogs are a kind of online journal. I found an old journal this week, and was disappointed that I hadn’t written anything in over a year. Then I remembered a time recently when I was reviewing old blog posts, and realized that blogging is a way that I journal about my life. I didn’t stop journaling, I just changed outlets.
Our discipleship process is about to go online. And this has been a primary focus for me over the last several weeks (and honestly for over a year). I’ll be in Georgia this weekend with a few guys (and possibly my wife) to finalize our process/curriculum, our “living room” environments, and how we can make things easier on our group leaders. Oh, and we’ll be addressing the little question, “What does a disciple look like?”
This month has been good for me. I feel more rested and focused than I’ve felt in a long time, both mentally AND physically. It’s funny how your body will tell you when something is wrong, and how often we choose to ignore it.
This month has been good for RPC. In the last five years I’ve never taken more than one week at a time off, so I think some people were worried that things would fall apart this month while I wasn’t in the office. In fact, everything is running smoothly and several of our key leaders have spread their wings and stepped up.
This month has been good for Michael. I’ve heard several people say that he knocked it out of the park yesterday. I knew he had it in him, he just had to speak enough to become comfortable enough to let his personality come out. He’s hilarious, and I think yesterday it finally showed.
I’m over numbers. One unintended result of the last few weeks has been that I’m through looking at and paying attention to numbers. Don’t get me wrong, they’re important and can be a great indicator of how things are going. But this is a marathon, not a sprint, and the days of allowing the rise and fall of each week’s attendance/offering to dictate my mood are over. We’re here to make disciples, and that takes time. And the numbers don’t always reflect that accurately.
Our new series will blow you away. Or at least it will me. I’m so pumped to be sharing our observations of what a disciple looks like in our new series called “Escalator” (I keep calling it Elevator for some reason – don’t make that mistake or you face the wrath of Em).
We’re working on some really cool ideas for our Easter series in a few weeks. I think it’s really gonna “pop”.
Going to Dallas again today. In fact, I’m sitting in Orlando International Airport (code ‘MCO’ – can anyone explain that to me??) waiting for a flight. Our pastor’s mentoring group meets tomorrow @ Fellowship Church, and I’m excited. Wow, a lot has happened since last month’s trip.
That’s about it for now. I’ll try to post more before we leave for Georgia.
The MCO code in Orlando refers to the airports origin as the McCoy Air Force Base. It was a strategic site for B-52′s (there’s one on display at a park on the property) and was also the test site for the X-1 aircraft that Chuck Yeager went on to pilot and break the sound barrier. The base closed in 74 and the land was deeded to the city for the development of the airport. Some jokingly refer to the MCO as Mickey’s Corporate Office.
It is really funny that you say do not upset Emily with a link to her page of a post with a rubber ducky Jesus.
Orlando Int’l is on the land that used to be McCoy Air Force Base is the rumor I’ve always heard . . .
Timm
I spoke to Mike Sunday afternoon and told him that was the most comfortable he has ever looked on stage . he did a awesome job.
Wow, this post has generated more attention than any in recent memory (including an official from ‘MCO’ – dig that!!).
Maybe I should be random more often…
Where can we find the new series (“Escalator”)…observations of what a disciple looks like?
We’ll be sharing it starting January 27th and continuing for 7 weeks following.
Hey Timm, in case you are still wondering… MCO was originally meant for McCoy field (millitary airfield) about 50 years or so ago… But it is easily remembered by those learning airport codes to pass a test to become a travel agent as “Mickey & Company” hence MCO….
