I just finished reading this great post from Michael at Oak Leaf Church, and it raises an interesting discussion. He talks about how many people indicated they were crossing the line of faith on Easter, and how some watchdog critics are complaining that we don’t know how many were real.
It’s true, no one but God knows how many of those people were sincere. I spent a good bit of my night last night following up with half of the 15-20 people I mentioned here who we THOUGHT had made a commitment. Key word: THOUGHT. That’s why we called them. And for many of them it was a re-commitment. Translation: They were already Christian, they were just using the opportunity Sunday to re-solidify their commitment to Christianity. And I found as I talked to them that these were sincere people, struggling with real issues.
So, how many of the cards tht were turned in Sunday represent new Christ-followers? We’re still discovering that. But I tell you this – I’m also excited about those who are re-committing their lives to Christ, because that too is lifechange. That is a next step. That is someone who is closer to Christ than they were before, and THAT my friends, is a WIN.
Amen.
good point! Growth doesn’t stop when you get saved, it’s a marathon, with lots of stops and distractions along the way, the only thing that matters is that you pick yourself back up after you fall and keep truckin along.
